Gyu-Kaku is a Japanese BBQ restaurant located in Downtown Vancouver. Very similar to the popular Korean BBQ places where you are in a large table with an open grill in the middle and you cook your own meats and vegetables with the of course more Japanese style dishes. The restaurant is fairly large and has a nice decor and friendly service however even thought they have plenty of seating, it gets very busy during peak meal times so making a reservation is recommended. One thing I wanted to note early thought is even thought the restaurant is mainly setup for cooking your own food, they do offer pre-cooked food items also if you prefer not to do any grilling. The menu is fairly large and can be a bit overwhelming having so many choices which in the end is nice to have. For us, we went with the pre-selected course meals which depending on what kind you choose will come with a variety of different items but I feel is best to choose these if it’s your first time there. It will give you the widest range of stuff and if there is something in particular you really like you can just order that item again. Wed choose the Geisha course and also the Meat Lover course, the server explained that the Geisha course is less meat but higher quality and mixed with vegetable items and the Meat Lover is pretty much as it’s titled, more meat but slightly lower quality compared to the Geisha course. It is not a place for a quick meal although the food came at a good constant pace, It is a great place to get together with friends, relax and talk while you grill your food. The price can vary and they do have daily specials so there are choices depending on your budget. Overall a great place and the food were well marinated and tasted delicious! I highly recommend it however if you go with people that don’t like to cook things the experience can easily be ruined.
