Créme Bruleé Brownies

This is a new recipe that combines 2 very popular desserts so i thought i would give it a go. Créme Bruleé Brownies. A very interesting mix and fun recipe. I recommend using a torch for this one although you can try using the broiler option of your oven however i didn’t have too much luck using it to get a nice browning.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • *Custard Layer*
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 6 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 1/4 cups half and half cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • extra sugar for topping

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 9x13 baking pan with parchment or foil.

Step 2

Combine all the ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat all to combine. Do not overmix.

Step 3

Pour brownie batter into the Pan and bake for 15-20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Step 4

Remove from the oven and let it cool down on a wire rack, Do not remove from baking pan just yet.

Step 5

In a medium to large pot, combine all the custard layer ingredients and cook on medium heat. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is the consistency of a thick pudding. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

Step 6

Pour custard over the brownies, spreading to cover. Let it cool down a bit to set.

Step 7

Sprinkle sugar over the top, Sprinkle enough to cover the whole top. Torch the top when you are ready to serve. You can also try setting your oven to broil and torching the sugar that way. Enjoy!
